A giant chalk figure that is thought to have loomed large on a Dorset hillside since the 17th century is being given a makeover.
The world famous Cerne Abbas Giant will be re-chalked by hand by dozens of volunteers over the next two weeks.
The weather has taken its toll since the last refresh in 2008, leaving the Giant discoloured with weeds blurring its previously sharp outline.
The origin of the ancient figure remains a mystery, with ideas ranging from a depiction of ancient gods to aiding fertility.
Tonnes of chalk sourced from a nearby quarry will be tightly packed in by hand to ensure it remains visible for miles around.
