No-deal Brexit would be 'devastating' for South West warn MPs
Two West Country MPs have warned that the chaos of a no-deal Brexit would be devastating for the region.
Plymouth MP Luke Pollard, and Totnes MP Sarah Wollaston spoke to ITV News following a leaked report on the Government's no-deal plan.
Published in the Sunday Times, Operation Yellowhammer is Westminster's code name for its over-arching no-deal Brexit contingency plan.
The leaked documents suggest that the UK will face shortages of fuel, food and medicine if it leaves the European Union without a transition deal.
This scenario would be "devastating for the South West, our economy and people will die because of it" according to Labour's Luke Pollard.
Sarah Wollaston, who recently switched from the Conservatives to the Liberal Democrats, said it would "unleash economic chaos."
Government hits back at leaked report which predicts no-deal shortages
However, the Government has dismissed the report as "Project Fear" and out of date, saying that many changes to no-deal planning have been implemented since the report was compiled.
It comes as it was revealed that Prime Minister Boris Johnson will meet the leaders of France and Germany later this week to ask for a new deal.
