Bristol has the fewest qualified first aiders in the UK.

That’s according to a new study by Virtual College, which has ranked cities based on how well trained its residents are in first aid.

The study revealed less than a quarter of Bristolians are trained in first aid, which is the worst of any UK city - behind Nottingham, Southampton and Leeds.

It also claimed people from Bristol are the least likely to help someone else in the event of an emergency, with less than half (43 per cent) saying they would step in.

At the other end of the scale, Liverpool was crowned the UK’s best city followed by Glasgow and Brighton in second and third respectively.

The study also noted differences between younger and older generations, with those aged between 16 and 24 twice as likely to know first aid than those older than 55.
