Thieves smash and grab at Tewkesbury jewellers

Thieves have attempted to steal a safe from a high street jewellers in Tewkesbury.

Police were called to Butwell and Jones just before 4am and disturbed the offenders as they tried to fit a safe into the boot of their black VW Golf.

Officers chased the suspects towards The Cross and the safe fell out of their boot.

Although the safe they attempted to steal turned out to be empty, the offenders made off with jewellery from the window displays.

Gloucestershire Police say they are also looking for a red VW Golf as well as the black vehicle, which may be abandoned somewhere.

The force also say they've seen a rise in the number of both high powered Audi and Golf cars being stolen and used in crimes.
