Thousands of people who were heading to the Boardmasters festival in Newquay are working out what to do for the next five days after organisers cancelled the event due to the weather.

The decision has left thousands of music fans angry and upset. This is the first time the music festival has been cancelled in its entirety, although the surfing side of the festival is still going ahead.

The four-day music and surfing event at Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay was set to open to guests on Wednesday with entertainment starting on Friday.

In a statement issued on Tuesday night, organisers said "the potential risk is too severe for the event to go ahead."

This year's festival was set to be headlined by Wu-Tang Clan, Florence & The Machine, and Foals - who tweeted they were "gutted" about the cancellation.
