Plymouth Moor View MP Johnny Mercer to head-up new Government department for veterans
Plymouth Moor View MP Johnny Mercer has been given a new role in Government to improve the lives of veterans in the UK.
The prominent Tory backbencher, who is also a former soldier, backed Boris Johnson's successful bid to become Prime Minister.
He will now head-up a new Government department, working jointly with the MoD and Cabinet Office, to oversee veterans' affairs.
His official title will be Minister for Defence People and Veterans.
He will be working alongside MP Oliver Dowden who has also been chosen as the Minister to represent veterans in Cabinet.
They will drive policy on veterans’ welfare, mental and physical health, education and employment.
