Driver who failed to stop for police crashes into Congresbury pub

A driver who was being chased by police with children in the car, drove for nearly nine miles before a head-on crash with a pub wall.

It happened at midday on Saturday when officers in Weston-Super-Mare requested the driver to stop on the A370 Hildesheim Bridge.

The driver ignored officers and overtook vehicles on the wrong side of the road before colliding with the Plough Inn in Congresbury.

Police arrested the driver at the scene.

Two young children, the female passenger and male driver who were taken to hospital as a precaution.

Avon and Somerset Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
