Woman suffers 'significant injuries' during Padstow Obby Oss celebrations
A woman is in hospital after suffering 'significant injuries' during the Obby Oss celebrations in Padstow.
Police say that they were called after a 33-year-old collapsed in St Saviours Lane and became unresponsive.
Police and ambulance successfully resuscitated the woman, and she was airlifted to Derriford Hospital with a serious neck injury.
Police are seeking witnesses to the incident and request that any mobile phone or camera footage of the incident is made available to them.
Obby Oss forms part of the May Day festivities in Padstow.
The event sees performers parading through the streets in fearsome painted horse or 'Oss' costumes.
They are accompanied by a 'teazer' holding a club who taunts and encourages the Osses to dance around the town.
Followers support either the blue ribbon Oss or the red ribbon Oss, with generations of families supporting the same party. The origins of the festival are unclear, but it is thought to have links to a Celtic festival known as Beltane.
Police are calling for anyone who saw the incident to contact them.
