It's been as familiar a sight in Weston-super-Mare as seagulls and sand but Marks & Spencer's time in the town is almost over and out.

The iconic store's been in the seaside town for 112 years but on Saturday (April 27) it'll shut for good.

The next nearest M&S is at least a 23-mile journey to the north to Cribbs Causeway or 28-miles south to Taunton.

Seventy four employees are either leaving or taking redeployment offers.

It's one of 100 M&S stores set to close by 2022 as the company struggles to revive its fortunes.

Weston-Super-Mare has 5 million visitors a year but it seems not enough of them are making full use of the High Street or spending enough.

It could be one of the reasons why no alternative business has so far put its name to this site which remains under Mark & Spencer's ownership.
