Fire crews in Devon have tackled 12 moorland blazes over a seven-mile area on Dartmoor.

After being called out on Monday evening (22 April) emergency services believed the fire to be out around 18 hours later.

Devon and Somerset Fire said multiple beaters and misting units were still being used a while later for environmental protection and to prevent any further escalation.

Crews were in the Nakers Hill area of central Dartmoor which is only accessible using off-road 4x4s.

Overnight crews were removed from firefighting duties due to poor lighting and a police helicopter helped the fire service assess the situation early Monday morning.
