More than 80 firefighters from across Cornwall have spent the night trying to control a number of gorse fires that have broken out.

Just before midnight on Wednesday 17 April, the county's Critical Control Centre received numerous calls about a gorse fire on Bodmin Moor.

Crews quickly realised that there were four fire fronts spread over a distance of two miles. Several of the fires are near Bolventor on the A30 and the Dozmary Pool, Draynes Valley area.

A command point has been set up on Bodmin Moor. Throughout the night Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service stations including Bodmin, Launceston, Callington, St Austell, St Dennis, Delabole, Wadebridge, St Just and Lostwithiel have been involved in fighting the blaze.

Police are also at the scene and are requesting the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

After more than six hours of tackling the fire it was believed to have been mainly out, with firefighters defensively monitoring the area for any further hotspots.
