Unseasonably hot weather thought to have sparked wildfires in Chew Valley
Firefighters have been tackling a huge bracken fire thought to have been caused by soaring record temperatures.
The blaze broke out on Knowle Hill in the Chew Valley as the mercury rose to 20C - the highest temperature recorded on a winter’s day since records began.
Crews from Chew were called to the widespread fire in the grass and bracken on the crown of the hill, and used water and beaters to tackle it.
It's thought it was caused accidentally on Knowle Hill, the hill that’s a designated open space between Chew Magna and Chew Valley lake.
