Nick Knowles’ red ‘budgie smugglers’ have sold at auction for more than £2,000 - which will help pay for a teenager’s life-saving operation.

The TV presenter wore the trunks on I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! last year.

They were auctioned off for 15-year-old Luca Railton, from Bath, who was born without lower leg bones.

He needs £120,000 for an operation in the US, to replace metal plates he had fitted during a pioneering procedure in 2014.

“I’m over the moon about that,” Nick said, after the trunks were sold.

The trunks initially sold for £1,250 but the owner then returned them so they were auctioned again - this time for £2,000.

The family - who have so far raised £10,000 for Luca’s surgery - now plans to hold charity runs where runners wear red shorts in homage to the eye-catching swimwear.
