Man dies on Devon road after tree falls on his car

A 50-year-old man from Totnes has died after a tree fell onto his car while on a busy Devon road this morning.

Emergency services were sent to the A384 in Buckfastleigh just off the A38 at around 5.30am to reports a tree had fallen and hit two cars - an Alfa Romeo and a Hyundai I20.

The incident happened near the Dartbridge Inn.

The man, who was driving the Alfa Romeo, died at the scene.

A woman in her 20s from Buckfastleigh was removed from her car by the fire service and taken to Derriford Hospital with minor injuries.

The road remains closed in both directions between the A38 Dartbridge junction and Dartington roundabout. It is expected to be closed for most of the day while police examine the scene.
