Honda to temporarily stop production to 'adjust to all possible outcomes' of Brexit
Honda has announced it will stop production for six days in April to "adjust to all possible outcomes" of Brexit.
The Swindon-based plant will cease production to access "how best to prepare for any disruption caused by logistics and border issues following the UK leaving the EU on 29 March 2019."
Honda says staff will be paid over the six days despite suspended operations.
Production first began at the Swindon factory in 1989 and the company celebrated the production of it's one millionth car in 2003.
Today Honda of the UK Manufacturing Ltd produce over 160,000 units per year with a new vehicle 'rolling off the line every 69 seconds.'
The announcement comes hours after Jaguar Land Rover confirmed it was to cut 4,500 global jobs after retail sales dropped in 2018.
JLR blames a drop in sales of diesels, falling demand in China and growing fears about Brexit.
