One dog found, other still missing after owners rescued on Christmas Day walk
One of two dogs which went missing during a Christmas Day walk that went wrong has been found and reunited with his owner.
Bideford Coastguard was called out to rescue two people cut off by the tide near Westward Ho! on Christmas Day. The pair managed to get to shore with help from members of the public, but two dogs out with them went missing.
The wire fox terriers were last seen together at 4pm on Christmas Day on the beach at Westward Ho! Ripley and Bromley are both micro-chipped and registered to the Droitwich area. The estuary and burrow areas were searched by rescue teams on foot and in lifeboats.
On Boxing Day one of the dogs, Bromley, was discovered at Crow Point and has been reunited with his owner.
The second dog, Ripley, is still missing though and Bideford Coastguards are urging anyone who is out walking in the area to keep an eye out for the terrier.
Appledore RNLI, who were called out to help with the rescue efforts are reminding walkers not to go out to the river mouth or onto nearby sandbanks where the tide is extremely strong.
If the second dog is found, instructions from the emergency services are to take him to Torbridge Vets at Cadsdown in Bideford and to inform Bideford Coastguard.
