Dolphins rescued after becoming stranded in Cornish river creek
A pair of dolphins have been rescued after becoming stranded in a Cornish river creek.
The British Divers Marina Life Rescue (BDMLR) saved the pair from Froe on the Roseland peninsula.
But the rescue mission was extremely hazardous for the medics involved, due to the soft mud, slippery rocks and seaweed.
The rescue happened on the same stretch of river where the largest mass stranding of common dolphins in the UK occurred 10 years ago - where 70 dolphins became stuck.
Teams were alerted to the incident after receiving a call to report the mammals.
When their behaviour suddenly changed a few hours later, and they moved into the shallow water, the divers sprung into action.
As one dolphin stranded itself in the mud, the team then decided to bring the animal to shore to examine.
The two animals were later successfully released.
