North Devon Council is carrying out a consultation on the Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) currently in place at Barnstaple Pannier Market.

Last year the council introduced a PSPO which prevented access to the market in the evenings and at night, in a bid to curb anti-social behaviour and prevent damage to the Grade II listed building.

The PSPO expires on 31 January 2019 and the council is proposing to make a further order from 1 February for a period of three years.

There are no changes proposed to the existing order, under which the building is closed at 6pm each evening and reopened at 5am each morning, prohibiting the consumption of drugs and alcohol, littering, ball games and skateboarding and anti-social behaviour.

People have until 4 January 2019 to comment on the proposals at www.northdevon.gov.uk/consultations.
