Bristol's last residential treatment centre closes
Bristol's last residential treatment centre has closed after 35 years.
Chandos House has helped hundreds of men overcome their problems with alcohol and drug addiction, but also help them come to terms with childhood trauma and re-connect with their bodies.
Managers at the centre are blaming the closure on the lack of local authority funding for rehab therapies.
It needed to raise £1 million to stay open and despite celebrities like Russell Brand and Will Self backing the campaign, it failed to meet that target.
David Hill, who spent eight months at Chandos House said, "This place has done so much for the last 35 years. Without this place Bristol won't be the same, considering it's the last rehab in the city. So many men have come in and come out a different man."
Local MP Thangam Debbonaire attended a celebration lunch at the centre. She was critical of the Government for "letting" Chandos House close down.
