Fatal M5 crash in Somerset claims lives of two people
A man in his 50s and a woman in her 40s have died following a crash on the M5.
Emergency services were called to the scene between junction 24 for Bridgwater and 25 for Taunton on Thursday August 13 at 8:30am.
An HGV and six cars were involved in the collision on the southbound carriageway.
The female driver of one car and the male passenger of another car were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
Two women, one in her 40s and one in her 20s, sustained serious injuries and continue to be treated in hospital.
Three other motorists, two women and a teenage boy, received hospital treatment for minor injuries.
Originally both carriageways were closed but the northbound route reopened early afternoon.
After spending hours at the scene, the southbound carriageway opened around 12 hours after it first shut.
Police are appealing for dashcam footage of the incident to help with their enquiries.
