Concern after pink painted seagull spotted in Barnstaple
A seagull spray-painted pink has caused concern among animal charities after it was photographed in Barnstaple.
The RSPCA received a call relating to the birds being sprayed last Friday. They also received similar reports a couple of months ago.
Jenny Supernok saw the gull perched above a shop on Boutport Street.
She posted the photo on social media and it has since been shared over 50 times.
A spokesperson from the RSPCA told ITV News:
They said: "Sadly gulls do have a tough time of it at this time of year, we would urge people to be tolerant of the wildlife living around them."
Seagulls are protected by law. It is an offence to kill or injure a wild bird under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
