Tributes are being paid on social media to British sailor Tony Bullimore who has died at the age of 79.

The family of the world-famous yachtsman informed ITV News of Tony's passing after a battle with stomach cancer.

Mr Bullimore lived in Bristol and was known internationally for his race relations work in the city.

He was nicknamed the British Bulldog after surviving underneath his capsized yacht for four days during the 1996 Vendée Globe race.
