World's first IVF baby celebrates 40th birthday
Forty years ago today, the first ever IVF baby was born. The birth of Louise Brown from Bristol would mark the start of a medical revolution which would transform lives.
It's estimated that since her birth, 8 million babies have been born worldwide thanks to the treatment.
After 9 years of longing for a child, Louise's parents Lesley and John Brown had all but given up hope- until they were offered a revolutionary but experimental treatment.
But since 1978, millions of people have followed in Lesley and John's footsteps.
