Weather Presenter Bob Crampton, who's been described as "TV legend" by viewers and colleagues, has retired on air on Friday 29 June after more than forty years at ITV.

For the last decade Bob has been known for presenting the weather, but he has worked almost every job in the newsroom - from Reporter, Main Presenter, Producer, Director and acting Head of News.

Bob joined Westward TV in Plymouth in 1977 as a reporter, after starting out as a newspaper journalist. Although he admits it was slightly difficult as his father was the main presenter for rivals BBC Plymouth Spotlight.

In 1983 Bob moved up to HTV Bristol, where he cemented himself as an on-screen favourite, known for his great sense of humour and quick-wit. He was never afraid to poke fun at himself, and his luxuriant moustache became his trademark look.

It wasn't until 2008 that Bob became weather presenter at ITV West Country, a job which he still describes as "his favourite".

Here are a few of his highlights:

Alex Beresford, who presents the weather on Good Morning Britain and ITV West Country, said he owes much of his career to Bob Crampton.

“There’s not enough time or words to express how truly grateful I am that my career path led me to TV legend Bob Crampton. I really couldn’t put a price on the level of support and mentoring I’ve received from him in the last 13 years. He’s a true inspiration and I’m so thankful for all the tools he’s given me," said Alex.

ITV West Country News Editor John Alcock said “Bob is one of the great characters of ITV. He's been a joy to work with and someone whose opinion I've always respected. As a reporter he was famous for his luxuriantmoustache and fondness for wearing silly hats for pieces to camera,"
