Diver Tom Daley has announced he will be taking a break from the sport for the rest of the year.

British Diving has said it will allow him to return to full fitness after a series of ailments.

Daley is also expecting a baby with his husband Dustin Lance Black.

The 23-year-old won a synchro platform gold at the Commonwealths and five diving world-series medals.

His final competition was in Russia over the weekend where he picked up a fourth silver with mixed synchro partner Grace Reid.

He will return to training in the autumn, but not feature in any major competition until 2019.

British Diving says a "strong squad" will still compete at the World Cup in China next month and at the Europeans in Edinburgh in August.

The squad will likely include triple Commonwealth champion Jack Laugher alongside fellow gold medallists Grace Reid, Chris Mears and Dan Goodfellow.
