Living life in the remote - the new warden of Flat Holm

Now how do you fancy the idea of leaving the modern world behind and living on a remote island with not much more for company than thousands of seagulls?

Well that's exactly what the new warden of Flat Holm in the Bristol Channel has signed up for.

The amenities are basic - to say the least - and with a radius of only 600m, the island has limited space.

27- year-old Mat Brown is in charge of the island - which is mainly made up of grass and rock.

With the help of a few volunteers he'll monitor the wildlife, welcome tourists and repair the buildings which were left uninhabited all winter. He'll also act as landlord of the tiny pub and nurture the museum dedicated to Italian inventor Marconi - who in 1897 transmitted the first wireless signal over sea - from the island.

It's a role ideal for someone who is attracted to the simple life - and slow worms - take a look
