Taunton cattle market site transformation given go ahead

The multi million pound regeneration of a former livestock market in Taunton has been given the go ahead.

Taunton Deane Councillors have voted 11 to 3 in favour of the Firepool development.

There are plans for up to 200 homes, a quarter of which will be affordable housing.

The developers St Modwen also aim to build shops, restaurants and a cinema on the site straddling the River Tone.

Residents will have to be consulted on flood defence plans but it looks like an area that has been derelict for years now has a productive future.
