Lottery winners toast their £18.1m windfall
An 87-year-old man from Winterbourne near Bristol burst into tears today as he realised his family would be financially secure for ever.
Dennis and Shirley Banfield saw their Lucky Dip ticket match all six numbers to scoop the £18.1 million jackpot on the National Lottery on Saturday 17 February.
The winning lottery numbers were 5, 8, 9, 10, 38 and 53
Shirley and Dennis Banfield - who worked for 40 years at the South West Electricity Board - describe the moment they realised they'd won.
The couple - who buy their tickets in their local newsagents - always play the lottery on behalf of their two daughters Tina and Karen. Mr Banfield got very emotional when it came home to him that the women would now be set up for life.
While the family are still firming up how they will spend their windfall, they say they will definitely be giving to charity and... perhaps... buying a modest car.
One thing is certain. This is a family grounded in love and they won't let their new multi-millionaire status get in their way.
