UK's first Caesarean-born gorilla celebrates her second birthday
A baby gorilla that was the first to be born by Caesarean section in Britain is celebrating her second birthday.
Afia, a western lowland gorilla, is now fully integrated into her primate family after being hand-reared by zookeepers in Bristol.
She was born by emergency C-section in February 2016 after her mother, Kera, showed symptoms of potentially life-threatening pre-eclampsia.
The operation was carried out by consultant surgeons from Bristol University along with the Bristol Zoo's own vet team.
Staff at the zoo say the fact Afia had a complicated early life is a reason to celebrate as she turns two.
