For families with a new baby, this will have been a particularly memorable Christmas.

But babies born prematurely are spending their first Christmas in a hospital incubator instead of at home.

ITV West Country has visited two of the region's neonatal units to see what life is like for babies and their families.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St Michael's Hospital in Bristol cares for some of the region's youngest patients. Caron Bell has been for a visit.

Some of Cornwall's newest additions and their families have had to stay at Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust's Neonatal Unit over Christmas.

The ward cares for premature babies and those needing extra care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Grace Pascoe reports.
