A lorry crashed into the side of a house in north Cornwall earlier today, demolishing a large part of it.

Police and firefighters were called to the property near St Teath, between Port Isaac and Delabole, just after 8am.

No one was seriously hurt, however the family who live in the house now have their Christmas plans disrupted by the damage.

The residents, Moyra Rawson and Gary Stafford, had just made a cup of tea in that room and described the crash as like a 'thunderclap'.

The electricity then went out with dust filling the room.

They escaped unharmed with their collie Sparky.

A minibus was also involved in the collision.

Despite the severe damage to the lorry, the driver suffered only minor injuries.

Western Power were also called to the scene as the lorry broke an electricity pole.

Once structural engineers had assessed the site the lorry was towed from the house.

Repairs may now be delayed until the new year.

The homeowners still hope to be in the other end of the house on Christmas day.
