ITV West Country's current trainee, Simisola Jolaoso, has won a national award for a documentary she filmed called Forensic Nurses: Fighting Sex Crimes in South Africa.

After receiving funding from One World Media, she flew to South Africa to film with forensic nurses and rape survivors, in a town called Welkom, in the Bloemfontein province.

She spoke to presenter Kylie Pentelow and Jonty Messer about how she got involved.

Forensic Nurses are specialist nurses who help victims of sexual assault by providing counselling, collecting evidence and testifying in court.

The likelihood of a case leading to a conviction is higher with such a nurse involved.

It is an especially vital field due to the high rates of sex crimes in the country, however, it is underfunded and as a result, many nurses are leaving it.
