Bristol Old Vic could lose £188k per year
The Bristol Old Vic theatre is set to lose £188,000 per year under new proposals.
They currently receive £288,640 per year from the council as part of their contributions to the arts.
Bristol City Council’s contributions to arts organisations could be scaled back from more than £1 million in 2017/18 to £727,000 for 2018/19, as part of the wider programme of cost-cutting.
A panel recommended that the council should have an across-the-board 15% cut, that more arts organisations should take a smaller share of the overall amount of money available and that there should be a £100,000 cap on any one single organisation.
It is largely the bigger arts and cultural organisations that will be worst hit, with Watershed due to receive £68,000 – down from £104,960.
