Christmas boxes for victims of Hurricane Irma

All these boxes are destined for the British Virgin Islands Credit: ITV News

In what is not much more than a broom cupboard - PC Vicky Ephgrave is running Operation Christmas out of Avon and Somerset Police's HQ.

Surrounded by hundreds of shoe boxes - all destined for the British Virgin Islands in a months' time:

She only started it a week ago and in the past 7 days it's taken over her life.

Vicky and eight other officers travelled out to the hurricane hit area earlier this year.

What was an unspoilt Caribbean paradise - was almost completely destroyed by the disaster.

The team helped with everything from rebuilding roofs to clearing schools.

"People had no homes," she says. "They had no belongings and I was talking to some girls - little girls that were playing in the police station - and they told me that they weren't going to have a Christmas so I felt compelled to do something."

But now - with the help of Wiltshire charity Team Rubican - children WILL get a box - full of all sorts of surprises.
