Plymouth-based battleship welcomes new captain

A Plymouth-based warship has a new captain following major upgrades.

Commander Alexandra Pollard has taken charge of HMS Northumberland, having previously served as the executive officer aboard HMS Richmond.

The ship, which was launched in 1992 and entered service in 1994, is based in Devonport, and has recently undergone upgrades to weapons systems, infrastructure and navigation equipment.

Addressing the ship's company on the jetty before coming aboard, Commander Pollard said that they and the frigate have an exciting future.
