Emergency crews spent several hours yesterday trying to free him from the pit on the coast path near St Just.

A firefighter and paramedic were lowered on ropes so they could assess the man and give him first aid.

The man, who is in his fifties, was airlifted to hospital with a hip injury and suspected hypothermia.
