Boat destroyed in suspected gas canister explosion

Two men have been taken to hospital in Bristol after the boat they were on exploded.

The vessel was moored near the Mud Dock Cafe, when a loud explosion was heard across the city just before 1pm on Sunday.

"We were just sitting in a restaurant close by and we heard a thump. It wasn't like a bomb. We saw all the birds flying into the sky," said one eye-witness.

The two men were reportedly changing gas canisters when the explosion happened.

Emergency services arrived at the scene, along with a police helicopter.

The harbourmaster confirmed two men were on board, although it's thought they were not seriously hurt. The authorities will now work together to clear the debris from the harbour.
