A block of flats in Exeter was evacuated after a 14-foot-long African Rock python escaped and slithered into one of the building vents.

The snake, which had reportedly not been fed for a month, was caught by a team of 'reptile experts' and emergency services this morning, 7 August.

The search involved the fire service using 'snake-eye' cameras and began around 1am on Saturday, 5 August at Elsie Place, off Ashcroft Road in the Hill Barton area of Exeter.

Many residents decided to remain in the building, despite being offered a hotel room by Devon and Cornwall Housing.

Although a rare occurrence, African rock pythons are known to have attacked humans.
