Five officers injured after prison violence at Erlestoke

Five prison officers required hospital treatment after being hurt trying to take back control of a wing at Erlestoke Prison near Devizes today.

One is undergoing surgery for a broken jaw.

The Prison Officers' Association says around 30 inmates were involved in the violence on the Silbury Unit this morning.

It's the second day running there's been trouble at the jail.

The Ministry of Justice says order was restored by lunchtime.

The violence flared just days after a report highlighted a lack of experienced staff at the jail.
