Dramatic footage shows how sleeping driver causes fatal crash

Shocking footage has been released of the moment a van driver fell asleep at the wheel causing a crash that killed a Wiltshire pensioner.

Christopher Trusler had been awake for 14 hours before he fell asleep and drifted onto the wrong side of the road, hitting a vehicle driven by 71-year old David Wakefield from Aldbourne.

Two years later Mr Wakefield's son Ash has released footage of the cash to encourage people not to drive when tired.

Mr Trusler had reportedly been awake for 14 hours before he fell asleep at the wheel.

His flat bed van crashed into a vehicle driven by 71 year old David Wakefield on the A420 near Abingdon.

Ash Wakefield says there is a serious problem with people working long hours and then driving.

Mr Trusler, who worked for a traffic management company, admitted driving on the wrong side of the road and causing the fatal collision. He was sentenced to two years in prison.
