A backpacker from Somerset has drowned after getting into difficulty in a river in Cambodia.

Steven Griffiths, had only learned to swim since arriving in the country. The 21 year old from Cotford St Luke flew out to Southeast Asia in January, part of his plans to travel and work across different parts of the world.

Writing on Facebook, Steven's sister, Elesha Cording paid tribute to her brother:

In order to help with the cost of bringing Steven's body back to the UK and his funeral a Go Fund Me page was set up and has almost reached its target of £5000.

Steven's funeral will take place on Friday 28 July 2017 at 3:30pm at Taunton Crematorium and a party will be held afterwards to celebrate Steven's life at The Chapel bar & restaurant Cotford St Luke, TauntonTA4 1HX afterwards. His sister has reminded those who want to attend that the dress code is casual, jeans are acceptable and that the family does not wish to have flowers.
