A stranded dog and its owner have been rescued and escaped with only very muddy fur from the Uphill in Somerset.

Burnham's rescue hovercraft flew out to the pair on Thursday 20 July following reports of the dog walker attempting to save the pet from the thick mud by Black Rock.

Weston and Clevedon Coastguards were called out alongside a crew from BARB Search & Rescue and the hovercraft initially flew out to the owner and brought him back to the hard sand area. Then the crews rescued the Springer from what they called a "particularly dangerous area of mud by the River Axe."

Advice from the the rescue team is for dog owners to never put themselves at risk to reach animals, but call 999 and ask for the Coastguard instead.
