Road repairs will take 'weeks rather than days' in flood damaged Coverack
The clear up operation is well underway in Coverack after the village was badly affected by sudden heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
The localised adverse weather saw 100mm of rain fall in 2-3 hours with half falling in the first hour, according to the Environment Agency.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Phil Martin explains how the emergency services responded.
The firefighter urged people to stay away from the village while the recovery operation took place and until Coverack returned to normal.
Cornwall Council opened a emergency centre for those affected by the flooding and have held a meeting for residents to ask questions about repairs.
Adam Paynter leader of Cornwall Council:
It will "take weeks rather than days" to repair the main road into the village", but it is a priority, says the council.
All manner of objects from wood to children's toys, have been washed up. Most of the debris scattered across the beach left there after flood water rushed over the sea wall yesterday evening.
The Environment Agency have been in Coverack with officers assessing the damage caused and the channels the water took as it headed, with force, to sea.
According to the Environment Agency the sea wall in Coverack is structurally sound and repairs will be made to damaged section.
