3 dead and 9 injured after multi-vehicle crash in Cornwall

Three people have died and nine people were left injured after a serious multiple vehicle collision on the A38 in Cornwall this morning (09/08).

Five vehicles were involved in the crash which happened at 11.15am between Tideford and Landrake.

A woman and a child from one sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. A second child from the same car had serious head injuries and was airlifted by air ambulance to Bristol Children’s Hospital. His injuries are not believed life-threatening at this time.

A male pedestrian was also killed, he died at the scene.

Six more people were taken to Derriford Hospital with injuries which are not believed to be serious and two others were treated at the scene by ambulance.

The A38 remains closed in both directions at Trerulefoot and St Germans while officers carry out an examination of the scene and the vehicles are recovered.

The road is expected to remain shut for some time so police are asking motorists to avoid the area for the time being.

Diversions are in place via the A388.
