Three people stuck on a rock at Stair Hole in Lulworth have been rescued by the Coastguard helicopter.

Teams from Lulworth and Kimmeridge were called, but because of where the people were stuck, it was an impossible mission for the cliff rescue crew. Instead the UK Coastguard search and rescue helicopter was deployed.

The Coastguard has issued safety tips as a reminder of how to stay safe when out and about near the sea.

  • make sure that you are properly equipped for walking along coastal paths

  • wear sturdy shoes or boots

  • check the weather forecast and tidal times before you set out

  • carry a fully charged mobile phone and tell someone where you are going and what time you will be home

  • use the designated paths and do not attempt to climb up or down cliffs unless you are properly equipped and trained to do so
