A man from Plymouth has been left with potentially life changing injuries after he was run over just six days before he was due to be married.

Ben McEvoy was returning home from his own stag-do in the early hours of Sunday morning in the West Park area of the city, when he was run over by what is thought to be a taxi.

His fiancée Jodi Simmons claims he was hit again after being discovered in the road by a neighbour, when they dashed back into their home to call 999.

However Devon and Cornwall Police say they are currently only investigating a single hit and run incident.

Ben suffered four fractured vertebrae, a fractured sternum and various cuts and grazes. His fiancée says they are still planning to tie the knot this Saturday, and that Ben is aiming to be well enough to walk down the aisle.

Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were notified at around 4.40am on Sunday 28 May 2017 to reports of a man lying unconscious on Hirmandale Road, Plymouth.

Investigating Officer Phil Rooks of the Serious Collisions Investigation Team said:

“We are appealing to the driver of a grey hackney taxi that picked up a man from the Octagon and dropped them off at Hirmandale Road at around 4am to contact police.

“We are also asking members of the public who may have witnessed a grey coloured taxi in the area at that time to come forward.”
