A campaigner who raised over £30,000 for charity has died of cancer after an 8 year battle with the disease.

Laura Plane was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009. She was heavily involved with the cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel.

Laura, a teacher, recently received a Pride of Britain Award nomination after winning the Pride of Plymouth accolade.

She had been invited to a garden party at Buckingham Palace last week but couldn't make it.

Last Saturday, her husband Jon revealed that she had sadly passed away.

Laura found a lump in her right breast in 2009 when she was aged just 29.

She went through extensive treatment including a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.

It was around this time that she began fundraising for CoppaFeel, a charity which which encourages women to check themselves for signs of breast cancer.

Both Laura and her husband raised over £30,000 pounds for the charity through a series of events, including sports tournaments and auctions.
