Around 50 jobs are to be axed at one of Somerset's biggest companies, the shoemakers Clarks, which has its HQ in Street.

A spokesperson for the company said the industry was facing a "challenging commercial and economic environment" - with rising costs and customer expectations.

In the face of these challenges, the company is reorganising its business.

It's the second round of redundancies in just over a year for the firm - last February 170 jobs were cut, the majority from the Street-based HQ.
