Humpback whale makes an appearance off the Devon coast
Watch below the moment a mother humpback whale and her calf gave onlookers a rare treat when they burst from the water, off the Devon coast.
The spectacular display, known as breaching, is usually only seen in the world's great oceans.
The awesome sight was caught on video by Andrew Humphries who had hired a boat to look for dolphins with his wife and friends.
The enthusiast - who regularly goes to the States to see whales - said he had never seen anything like it in Britain before.
Andrew, 50, a dad-of-three who owns two jewellery shops, said: "It was fantastic. I've never seen anything like it."
"We went out to Berry Head, just off Brixham to look at dolphins."
"As we were going towards Torquay, we saw a massive splash. We cruised up slowly towards it and saw an adult and baby smashing their fins."
"Then the big whale dived down and its fin came out."
"Then the two whales were slapping their fins on the water, then one disappeared and the other one came back and breached out of the water a couple of times."
"It was absolutely wonderful."
