'1000 Thank Yous' from organ recipients to donors

An artwork to recognise the generosity of organ donors and their families will be opened at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital by Dame Janet Trotter on Thursday 9 March.

The piece is called '1000 Thank Yous' and it is in the shape of a heart. The shape is formed by gold tags, which have been engraved with thank-you messages from organ recipients to donors.

The stunning artwork was funded by the Organ Donation Committee that is part of Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Committee wanted the permanent installation to provide a reminder of the power of organ and tissue donation - hoping to inspire people to donate their organs.

Gloucestershire firm George King Architects designed and built the donor memorial.
